Lady Gaga dognapping reward lawsuit filed by accused thief tossed

Jennifer McBride tried suing Lady Gaga for $500,000 in reward money after returning the pop star’s stolen French bulldogs — and after getting arrested and charged with involvement in the dognapping.

A judge has dismissed the lawsuit, saying that letting the suit proceed “would allow [McBride] to benefit from her admitted wrongdoing,” TMZ reported.

The saga started in February 2021, when dogwalker Ryan Fischer was shot and two of Gaga’s French bulldogs were taken while he was taking the dogs for a walk near Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Fischer survived the attack and recuperated with Gaga’s support. Meanwhile, the “Born This Way” singer offered a $500,000 reward for the dogs’ return. Two days after the assault, McBride returned the dogs to a Los Angeles police station and later became one of five individuals charged in the crime.

McBride was charged with one count of receiving stolen property and accessory to attempted murder, and she was sentenced in December 2022 to two years of probation after striking a plea deal to dismiss the murder charge, according to USA Today.

This February, however, McBride sued Gaga, seeking the $500k reward she said she hadn’t received — as well as legal fees and compensation for financial damages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life.

In the suit, McBride alleged that Gaga “never intended to honor their unilateral offer to pay the reward money” and offered the reward “with the intent to defraud and induce members of the public to rely upon it and to act upon said promise,” as USA Today reported at the time.

In June, Gaga’s attorneys asked the judge in the case to dismiss the lawsuit. “Plaintiff Jennifer McBride seeks to profit from her participation in a crime,” the attorneys wrote in court papers filed at the time, per KABC. “The law does not allow a person to commit a crime and then profit from it.”
