Baltimore block party mass shooting: reward for information

A $28,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with a block party shooting in Baltimore that left two dead and dozens more injured.

Authorities are still working to identify the shooter or shooters, but no arrests have yet been made, Richard Worley, Baltimore’s acting police commissioner, told reporters during a news conference Monday night.

“I strongly urge anyone with information to help us bring these individuals to justice,” he said.

The gunfire erupted on Sunday around 12:30 a.m. during “Brooklyn Day,” an annual summer celebration held in the Brooklyn Homes area in the southern part of the city. The event typically has some sort of police presence, but Worley said residents did not obtain a permit this year.

Two people, identified as Kylis Fagbemi, 20, and Aaliyah Gonzalez, 18, died in the violence, while another 28 people — including minors — were wounded.

The ages of those shot ranged from 13 to 32 years old and more than a dozen of the injured victims hurt were younger than 18, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

Seven of the wounded remained hospitalized, with four in critical condition and three listed as stable, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott told CNN Monday.

“We will not rest until we find those who cowardly decided to shoot up this block party and carry out acts of violence which we know will be illegal guns,” Scott said, adding that authorities are going through “every single lead, every minute, every second of footage, everything that we have to find out who decided to disrupt this peaceful event in this way.”

Several agencies, including the FBI and ATF in Baltimore, have contributed funds for a reward totaling $28,000 for information leading to an arrest.
