Pennsylvania state trooper dead after shooting in Juniata County

A Pennsylvania state trooper was killed and another trooper was seriously hurt in a shooting Saturday in Juniata County in the central area of the state.

The suspect was also killed in the incident in which he traded gunfire with troopers in Mifflintown around 12:30 p.m., officials said.

The man first shot and seriously wounded one trooper before escaping for a brief period, reported a Philadelphia TV station.

Following a search, officers relocated the shooter around 3 p.m. in Juniata County, and exchanged fire with the man.

The ensuing gunfight led to the shooter and one state trooper being shot and killed.

The state trooper shot in the initial exchange was later transported to a nearby hospital, where Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris visited him.

The identities of the shot troopers and the person who fire at them were not immediately released.
