Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy defensive end Dylan Stewart is one of the most coveted players in the 2024 class. The top-30 prospect has taken a lot of visits this spring and a short list of main contenders is beginning to take shape.
Stewart’s most recent visit was to Oregon for their spring game but he’ll be in Coral Gables this weekend for another look at Miami. He also has another visit set to a SEC program for later this month.
“The big highlights at Oregon were the spring game, getting to see coach Lupoi and coach Lanning, and talking with them to see how they’d develop me,” Stewart said. “Their defense looked good. I like their defense.
“I’ll be at Miami this weekend,” he said. “I like their new staff and the way they’ve been recruiting me. Jason Taylor knows what I’m going through so he’s been able to give me a lot of advice. That does a lot for me because he knows what it takes and what to do to make it.
“I’m going to Tennessee on May 29th I think,” said Stewart. “I want to sit down and talk with the coaches. It will be my first time getting to see everything there. I’ve been talking to coach Banks.”
Stewart has official visits set to South Carolina, Ohio State, and Georgia for next month but he isn’t planning on committing anytime soon.
“Every time I go down to South Carolina I just get more comfortable,” he said. “I’m just comfortable with their fans and most of the staff. At most schools, you know the main guys but you ‘d know the trainers and the other coaches but at South Carolina I most of the people there. I’d be used as an off-the-ball linebacker where I can blitz, drop into coverage, rush the passer, and defend the run. My official visit there is the last weekend in June.
“June 16th is my official visit to Ohio State,” Stewart said. “Coach Johnson is really passionate about getting me. The things he showed me about what he wants to do with me while I’d be there and being developed by him stand out. I told him that I don’t want to be a one-trick pony so he showed me everything that he would want me to be doing. He showed me how I’d fit in to their defense.
“It’s the development at Georgia and the relationships I have there,” he said. “I’m close with a lot of the staff and coaches. I talk to Kirby Smart. If I was to go there, I’d be around a lot of guys. I wouldn’t be the only star on the defense so I wouldn’t be the main focus. I’d be around a lot of good defensive guys. Everybody eats there. Being in Athens, there isn’t really much there but I’m not really worried about that. My official visit is the first weekend of June.
“Alabama, Michigan, and Penn State are also in the mix right now,” said Stewart. “After I do my first official visits, I’m going to try to do some visits during the fall for games. I plan on waiting it out to commit and going to see some games.”
Before all is said and done, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Stewart take official visits to Oregon, Miami, Alabama, and Miami along with the three already scheduled to South Carolina, Ohio State, and Georgia. If you were to try to name a leader in Stewart’s recruitment right now, you’d be hard-pressed to choose between South Carolina, Ohio State, and Georgia. It will be interesting to see where Stewart stands after his visit to Miami this weekend and if he makes it to Tennessee later this month.
