The Best Device For Anxiety and Stress – A Review

The Best Device For Anxiety and Stress – A Review

This is my first review of this kind so please be gentle with me. I’ve not sold any products before but when CalmiGo contacted me I thought I’d give it a try. As you probably know I write about self-care and wellness on my blog and a huge part of taking care of yourself is learning how to destress and stay calm when life is going a bit nuts. This product seemed to me to be a real contender for the best device for anxiety and something that I felt you, my readers, might find really useful. So here goes.

The product is called the CalmiGo Smart Calming Companion and it claims to provide immediate drug free relief from distress or anxiety.

So How Does CalmiGo Work?

CalmiGo works by combining 3 scientifically proven methods to reduce anxiety.

1. Firstly it says it uses a grounding technique, which is through multi-sensory stimulation. This is so important when you are feeling overwhelmed by a situation because it forces you to slow down and focus on what your body is doing and how you are feeling. It almost literally brings you back down to earth which let’s you then take a step back and take control of your situation.

2. Secondly it applies the use of scented elements to trigger your brain to recall an emotion or memory.

3. This new product also claims to help you by personalizing your breathing regulation – CalmiGo has technology which can measure your personal breathing patterns and adjusts to your needs at the exact moment that you need it.

What’s in the Box?

So, in the box it comes with batteries and a screw driver to open the battery compartment at the back which is very thoughtful of them. How many times have you bought something and then had to find batteries yourself and a screwdriver to open the back to get them in?

It comes with a one year warranty which is great so if you have any issues they’ll sort this for you. There are different scents you can choose from but I chose the lavender, only because I know it’s a scent that tends to help me relax but I’m sure the others are just as good.

It also comes with a handy pouch so you can store it away when you’re not using it and it’ll stay nice and clean and hygienic.

How Does the CalmiGo Smart Companion Work Exactly?

So now I want to walk you through a few steps to explain to you exactly how you use CalmiGo so you can see just how simple it is.

  • There’s no need to look directly at the feedback lights and strain your eyes – the lights can be seen even when looking forward. You can also set it to vibrate when it reaches the optimum exhalation level so you can use your device with your eyes closed if you like.
  • Exhale through your mouth, inhale through the nose while keeping CalmiGo in the same position throughout the use.
  • Maintain relaxed, slow and calm exhalations at all times, even if you don’t reach the desired exhalation length (in which all three feedback lights light up concurrently and the vibration is activated, if enabled). I quite like having the vibration turned on as it gives your lips a gentle reassuring tingle each time.
  • CalmiGo adapts to your own breathing pattern – Make sure exhalations are as long and relaxed as possible – CalmiGo will take care of all the rest!
  • You might hear a rattling sound when moving CalmiGo, but that’s ok! The part that rattles in the product is a component of the mechanism that detects your exhalations. So it’s perfectly normal. Don’t worry you haven’t got a broken one.
  • Keep CamiGo accessible (e.g. in a handbag or pocket) so it can be used whenever/wherever it is needed and you’ll easily integrate the CalmiGo into your daily routine. It’s quite small so really convenient and you can easily tuck it away in a bag or pocket.

My Experience With CalmiGo

So I have been using CalmiGo for a week or so now. And I’m excited to tell you what I found out and how I felt. But first let me just let you into the world of my current health issues that I’m battling with and then I think you’ll understand why I was exited to try this product out.

I’m only in my mid-forties but I’ve been unlucky enough to start struggling with perimenopause symptoms for over 5 years now. Super early I know, but many women do start to struggle with symptoms earlier than you think.

Severe Symptoms

My symptoms started with severe migraines, dizziness, vomiting, shaking and other horrific things that basically floored me for about 4 days each month. Just before my period started the symptoms would kick in and I became useless.

Anyway, skipping on 5 years and I have been using HRT gel which had been a lifesaver for a while but I guess my body is still changing loads and I have found that things are changing again. Not only do I get the migraines again but I now suffer from anxiety, feeling stressed, lack of sleep and a tingling sort of pins and needles type of sensation in my face.

The smallest thing can trigger it and it takes me a while to feel calm and relaxed again. So I was pinning my hopes on CalmiGo to help me through this horrid phase of my life.

Right, so this is the bit you really want to hear about right?

How CalmiGo has helped me

This is how Calmigo made me feel:

When I first started using the device it felt a bit awkward. My mouth ached a tiny bit and I found I was forcing the breath, but as I got used to it my face and muscles started to relax and it became quite natural.

When Feeling Anxiety and Stress

I used it when I was feeling particularly anxious or stressed like when I sit down in front of my laptop and think “ What on earth and I going to write about today?” or I look at my viewing stats on my blog and see that the numbers have dropped this week because of a coding issue on my website. It’s crazy really because these things shouldn’t bother me but just lately they seem to send my body into a total melt down.

Gradual Change

Anyway for the first few days of using the CalmiGo I have to say I didn’t notice much change. But as the week went on I found I wasn’t getting the tingling in my face so much, and I could breath more easily. I seemed to be able to tackle my work load with a more level headed and positive mindset. Just knowing that I had a plan of action ready if I started to feel stressed really helped.

As soon as I could feel the stress building I grabbed my CalmiGo and took three minutes to do the breathing exercises. This helped to relieve my symptoms and I could get back to work without any problem.

Slow Controlled Breathing

I definietly think the slow, controlled breathing helps and for me it’s a bit like having an incredible figdet spinner in my pocket when I need it. It gives me a solution for an otherwise stressful or anxious situation. I now know I have a plan to tackle these feelings and that, in itself gives me relief and helps me to relax.

On top of this the lavender scent takes my mind to lavender pillows or relaxing in a bubble bath and triggers something in my brain that says chill out. It’s all going to be ok. A bonus is that it clears my nasal passages too, making it much easier for me to breath.
