Shooting reported at North Carolina community college

A North Carolina community college was locked down Thursday morning following reports of a shooting.

Forsyth Tech in Winston-Salem told students to shelter in place around 10 a.m. because of an “an active shooter situation.”

Cops began searching the campus for two shooters, according to local news reports.

About 90 minutes after the initial shooting call came in, Winston-Salem police said there was “no active shooter on the campus of Forsyth Tech.”

“There is still an active investigation on the campus,” police said. “There are no other threats to any other schools in the area.”

Forsyth Tech told students to continue sheltering in place even after cops gave the all-clear.

“We know that there’s the possibility for something like this happening every day, and so our thoughts go out to the students and faculty and administration there at Forsyth Tech,” Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines told local Fox affiliate WGHP. “It’s a very difficult time across the country as we see these things happen and particularly comes right into your own backyard.”

Forsyth Tech has around 11,000 undergraduate students and also has connections with nearby high schools. Some high school students were on campus during the lockdown, according to WGHP.

This is a developing news story.
