A small airplane slammed into a home near a New Hampshire airport, killing the two people onboard, officials said.

The Beechcraft Sierra aircraft crashed into a multi-family building in Keene on Friday, shortly after taking off from the Dillant-Hopkins Airport before 7 p.m. Video taken on the scene captured the moment the plane struck the building and then exploded into flames.

Scott Gauthier, who lives in the apartment, said he and his mother heard a loud noise and then felt the building shake.

“I grabbed some clothes and ran out, and as soon as I ran out, the whole barn area was already engulfed,” he told WMUR.

No one inside the residence was injured, but city officials confirmed on Saturday that both people “on the plane have perished.” The identities of the those who died in the crash have not been released.

Investigators examine the site of a plane crash in Keene, N.H. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.

Keene Mayor George Hansel told reporters that the eight people who lived in the home were displaced as a result of the crash. The Red Cross is helping to relocate them, he said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and New Hampshire Department of Transportation remained at the site of the crash Saturday afternoon. Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are also expected to arrive later in the day.
