BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – A Bloomington man is scheduled to appear in court later this month for allegedly driving under the influence of marijuana when his pickup truck struck and killed a woman who was walking downtown last September.
Quinton Turner, 27, is charged with aggravated DUI for accident that killed Yesnia Navarrete, 29, near the Six Strings Club at Center and Mulberry Streets late on a Saturday night in September of last year.
Bloomington Police said Turner stayed at the scene that night and didn’t face a felony charge until last month.
Shortly after the accident, 25 News reported that Navarrete helped her family run a popular Mexican restaurant, Taqueria El Porton. At the time, her brother Edgar called for the person responsible for the crash to be held accountable.
The aggravated DUI charge is a Class 2 felony carrying a maximum seven-year prison sentence if Turner is convicted.
Turner paid a $10,000 cash bond and was released from the McLean County Jail. His next court date is Mar. 31.
