Pragmatic Play recently launched the Mystery of The Orient slot, quickly followed by the release of Wild Wild Duels slot. While seemingly completely different, it will be quite interesting to see which one will prevail in the battle.

Round 1: Winning Potential and RTP

The Asian-themed slot is played across a 5×3 grid with symbols depicting tigers, gold and a sword-wielding female protagonist. There are up to 243 ways to win, while the game offers a big maximum prize of 8,035x the bet. 

With a 5×5 grid and 15 paylines, the slot inspired by Wild West beats its opponent by far in this category. This title comes with a massive winning potential of up to 20,000x the stake. 

Both games come with the highest level of volatility, ranked 5 out of 5 by the provider. Another they have in common is the RTP, set at 96% in both of these slots.

Round 2: Bonus Features

The main attraction in the Mystery of the Orient slot is the Mystery symbol, able to appear in the base game as well as during free spins. When it lands in the main game, this special symbol randomly reveals one of the following symbols: 

• Scatter – Landing 3 or 4 Scatters pays 10x or 40x the bet respectively, but 5 Scatters award the Grand prize worth 8,000x the stake.
• Wild – Wilds revealed by the Mystery symbol can give a random multiplier from 2x to 25x values.
• Free Spins symbol – Three or more Free Spins symbols in view activate the bonus round with up to 25 free spins. 

In the bonus round, two extra symbols come into play and can appear from a Mystery symbol reveal. One is the Reel Size Increase which increases the size of its reel by one position, while the other is the Additional Free Spins symbol that awards additional free spins. 

Except for substituting for all regular paying symbols, Wild in the cowboy-themed slot can randomly expand to fill the whole reel. After expansion, two gunslingers duel it out and the winning dueler adds its multiplier of 2x to 100x to the Wild.

The game features three types of Scatters and each of them triggers different free spins round:

• Beer Game – During 10 awarded free spins, whenever the Wild Beer Mug appears, it gets a random multiplier of 2x or 3x and remains sticky on reels until the end of the feature. The round can’t be retriggered and expanding Wilds are disabled.
• Duel – Three or more Duel Scatters in view award 10 free Duel spins with the possibility of expanding Wild hitting. Also, at least one Wild is guaranteed to land randomly on reels on each spin, while the round can’t be retriggered. 
• Lost Relics – This round starts with 3 free spins, but before it begins, players get to play a guessing mini-game. Picking 9 out of 25 shovels shown on the screen reveals either guaranteed Wilds or random multipliers of up to 5x. When the selection is over, free spins star and on each spin the picked number of Wilds is guaranteed to land in random positions, while each win is multiplied by the initially picked multiplier. 

Pragmatic Play has added a Buy Bonus option to both releases. Since the Mystery of the Orient comes with one free spins feature, you can purchase it for 100x the bet, while Wild Wild Duels offers an opportunity to buy either of the three available free spins features.

Due to more numerous bonus rounds, the gunslinger’s release is a winner of this duel as well. While the Mystery symbols can be quite helpful in scoring big wins, they still can’t compete with three different free spins features. 

Round 3: Visuals And Audio

Both slots can’t brag about having an innovative, original theme. In fact, they are both based on the two most used slot themes – Asian and Wild West. A slight advantage is given to Wild Wild Duel as it is visually more appealing than many similar slots. 

Speaking of visuals and audio, this slot wins again. While the design of Mystery of the Orient is beautiful, the overall presentation is more simplistic compared to its rival which is much more detailed graphics and animation-wise.

After winning in all rounds, the winner of this episode of slot wars is quite clear. Wild Wild Duels came to the top in this battle, but that doesn’t take anything from Mystery of the Orient that is also an engaging and fun release worthy of the player’s attention.
