The solar plexus is a muscle located in the chest’s center. It is connected to our heart, lungs, stomach, and spleen. It is a vital part of the body because it helps us digest food, regulate our emotions, and circulate our blood. This article will cover the benefits of releasing your solar plexus, where you can find it, and how you can do it.

Also known as the Manipura chakra1, the solar plexus is one of the 7 chakras and is the 3rd energy center. It is positioned 4 fingers above the navel. This is where your power and self-confidence are found. This is where your digestive system and diaphragm are. It is the power of autonomy of metabolism. Represented by fire, the color yellow brings brightness and balanced energy.

A Blocked Solar Plexus

The chakra system is like a river it controls the way the energy moves within the body1. If there is a block in your chakra river then it can affect the other chakras as well. If your solar plexus is blocked you might feel:

  • Have low self-esteem
  • Indecisive
  • Help Less
  • Lack of Confidence & Purpose

An Overactive Solar Plexus

On the other side, your solar plexus can be in overdrive. Much like a part of a river that runs too fast, it can push things through too quickly not giving the ecosystem enough time to adjust and causing issues in the Chakra river. Signs that it is overactive:

  • Desire for control
  • Overly Critical
  • Judgemental
  • Excessive Stubbornness
  • Anger and Aggressive

How To Release Your Solar Plexus

This section will get down to the nitty-gritty of releasing your solar plexus and truly awakening your true confident self.

Burn Manipurce incense and essential oils.

In a previous article, I talked about how aromatherapy and essential oils have an effect on your mind and all of the health benefits (read here) you can also use essential oils to open your solar plexus as well. Using fiery incense or essential oils like saffron, musk, sandalwood, ginger, and cinnamon will help open your solar plexus and release the trapped energy. You can use the essential oils in a spray, infuser, or in diffuser so the energy surrounds you.

Use positive affirmations about personal power.

Whether you say it in your head, out loud, or write it down. We control the energy and we can redirect it and shape it how we want. Affirmations are a part of that because your words are powerful. We use them to convey our feelings, and where our minds are, why wouldn’t they be able to influence the energy around us? With affirmations, we are using certain phrases to put ourselves and energy in a certain place to help us achieve our goals. The goals for these affirmations are to open your solar plexus:

  • As I take on new challenges, I am calm, confident, and powerful
  • I feel motivated to pursue my purpose
  • I stand in my personal power
  • I forgive myself for past mistakes and learn from them

Practice poses for solar plexus.

Using yoga poses along with mindful breathing helps release tension physically, mentally, and emotionally. You can use some of these poses to open your plexus and build confidence. Warrior poses, Sun salutations, and Boat Poses.

Heal From The Past

We talked about this back in our forgiveness article(read here). Previous trauma stored in your body can affect your patterns and behaviors. When you enter a situation that reminds you of another incident that happened to you or triggers you, you’ll react based on how you felt then, not on what’s happening right now. We need to heal from past trauma so we don’t feel helpless, and we can feel more confident and balanced. However, if you’re not healed from your past, then this can be difficult, healing in general is hard! But finding a good therapist, getting a good support system, and using the tools they give you to move past the trauma not only builds confidence but gives you a better quality of life.
