Etihad Airways has appointed former South African Airways executive Simon Newton-Smith as VP of the Americas, “as the airline continues to strengthen its presence in the North American continent,” the company announced Thursday. He began his role this week and reports to VP of Europe and the Americas Edward Fotheringham.
Newton-Smith most recently served as chief commercial officer for South African Airways. He has more than 20 years of experience in international sales and commercial strategy and also previously worked for Virgin Atlantic and Qatar Airways, according to Etihad.
Current North American destinations for the carrier include New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Toronto. Etihad also recently extended its codeshare with JetBlue.
