Man drives into dead bobcat strung up on N.Y. overpass, shattering windshield

An upstate New York man was shocked when he plowed into something hanging from an overpass, smashing his windshield.

At first Andrew Noble worried he might have hit an unleashed dog or even a child. The last thing he expected to see was a dead bobcat.

The animal had been strung from the Interstate 88 overpass.

“You think you had a bad day?” Noble posted on Facebook on Monday, along with graphic photos. “Bet you didn’t have a hit-a-bobcat-hanging-off-a-bridge-with-your-car kind of bad day…..”

He asked anyone who’d seen anything amiss between 7:45 and about 8 p.m. that day to pass the information on to state troopers.

“Someone is a sick MF,” he wrote. “My guess is it was roadkill cat that some punk kids strung up with paracord and tossed off the overpass.”

Noble was driving his son, 10, back from a wrestling match when the incident happened, he told the Albany Times-Union. Though glass shards penetrated his 2017 Honda Pilot, he and the boy were not injured.

Police confirmed the animal’s identity and said they were investigating.

“The item has been identified as a bobcat and is believed to have been deceased prior to the collision with the vehicle,” State Police spokeswoman Trooper Stephanie O’Neil told the Times-Union.
