A Houston rapper has been charged with aggravated kidnapping after police conducted a welfare check at a home in the northwest Houston neighborhood of Cypress.
According to court documents and law enforcement officials, Houston rapper Warren Brown, also known as Cartel Bo, is charged with aggravated kidnapping after the police check revealed evidence that a woman was held captive and later escaped.
Deputies responded to a request for a welfare check in the 15000 block of Darby Retreat Lane on Sunday, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman told KPRC. Deputies discovered indications that someone had been imprisoned inside the house and fled when they arrived. The woman was eventually found nearby by investigators, who sent her to a hospital for treatment, according to Herman.
Brown allegedly kidnapped the woman on July 21 and imprisoned her in a closet. According to the affidavits, Brown allegedly checked on the woman on an hourly basis, sexually assaulted her and prevented her from leaving. According to documents, Brown was stopped after leaving the Cypress home on July 25 and taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault of a family member.
Brown was previously detained in the Harris County jail in June on accusations of family violence against the same woman, with whom he has a 1-year-old child. In a different incident involving the same woman, he was also charged with felony assault of a family or household member, according to court records.
According to court documents, the woman met Brown to pick up their son and then arranged an Uber. The Uber driver told investigators that he saw the woman flee from Brown while holding the child’s car seat. The driver claimed that he intervened after Brown grabbed and abused the woman, leading Brown to hit the driver in the face and body. According to the driver, Brown threatened to murder him, leading to an additional misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury.
A hearing is set for Monday.
State prosecutors on Tuesday motioned to deny Brown bond pending trial. That motion was accepted, and bond is currently denied per court documents. Brown’s bail has also been temporarily denied until his next hearing. If he is released on bond, Brown would be required to wear GPS monitors.
