You learned the importance of relationships, vulnerability, and openness when it comes to organizing. You’ve learned that the backbone of all organizing comes from relationships; from talking to people one on one and one to many. Relationships are how we create and sustain collective power, and you’ll never go wrong listening more than you talk.
You learned how you can spread your message over social media and that it doesn’t need to be perfect to have an impact. You know that you should uplift marginalized voices and that those closest to the pain are closest to the power. While social media is an effective and far-reaching tool for organizing, it’s not the only tool and is just part of the mosaic that is activism.
You learned how to create and spread impactful petitions by having a specific ask, addressing it to a decision-maker, and giving them a deadline. You can amplify your petition by sharing it on social media, connecting with others who are passionate about the same issue, and utilizing your own network.
You learned about going door to door to canvass and the do’s and don’ts when talking with strangers about issues in your community. Canvassing allows you to understand the hope and hesitations of your community and adapt your campaign in real time. You’ve learned about your rights when protesting, how to stay safe, and how to organize a protest yourself.
Throughout the entire series, we’ve shown you the different ways you can organize your community and how one activity doesn’t make a movement, but a series of continued actions creates strength and momentum when it comes to fighting the good fight.
