Portuguese artist NØUNO is making waves with the completion of his ambitious musical trilogy, culminating in the release of concept album Before I Become Me. The project follows the musician’s previous chapters, Made in Portugal and Secret Emotions, with each instalment delving deeper into NØUNO’s story and the experiences that have shaped who he is today.
NØUNO has crafted this three-part musical autobiography through his lyrics, melodies and artistic direction, something immediately apparent from the moment you press play. Each release feels deeply personal, with the trilogy standing as a heartfelt passion project that blends cinematic storytelling with emotional honesty.
The musician explains: “The project was intentionally created using modern creative technologies alongside my own writing, ideas and artistic direction. I wanted to explore what the future of music could look like while proving that technology doesn’t have to replace emotion—it can become another artistic instrument when guided by genuine human experiences.”
He continues: “For me, the voice isn’t the central focus. The music itself is. The atmosphere, orchestration, storytelling and emotion are what truly drive the listener’s journey. My hope is that every person experiences these songs differently and finds a piece of themselves within them.”
The trilogy is split into three distinct chapters. Made in Portugal opens the journey by paying tribute to the artist’s roots, reimagining traditional Portuguese music through a contemporary lens while embracing soulful nostalgia and cinematic production. This is followed by the seven-track EP Secret Emotions, with each song exploring a different psychological state, from hope and love to anxiety, isolation and emotional collapse. The project captures the complexity of the human experience while shining a light on the mental health struggles that many silently face.
The final chapter, Before I Become Me, is a cinematic concept album told entirely in the first person, following the artist’s emotional journey. NØUNO explains: “It begins in darkness, moves through love, heartbreak, identity and self-destruction, before arriving at something deeper than happiness—a quiet reconciliation with oneself.”
Reflecting on the role of technology throughout the trilogy, NØUNO adds: “To remind people that even in an age of rapidly evolving technology, music can still possess a soul. I truly believe the future of music doesn’t have to be a battle between humans and machines. It can become a collaboration—where technology expands creativity, but genuine emotion remains at the heart of every piece of art. That has always been the philosophy behind this trilogy.”
