Thousands of California drivers must retake written exam, DMV says

Thousands of California drivers need to retake their written exam or face having their license revoked.

The Department of Motor Vehicles said approximately 11,000 letters were sent to drivers across the state instructing them to retest due to “anomalies” in written exams. If the retest is not taken within 30 days, the DMV will cancel the license.

The DMV declined NBC Bay Area’s request for an interview Tuesday but shared a written statement which said it identified anomalies in the results of some knowledge tests.

The DMV said the tests are crucial in making sure drivers know the rules of the road before they drive in California.
