More than 25,000 people were without power early Wednesday morning in Durham after reports of a blown transformer. Crews were making repairs, and at 5 a.m. the outage was down to 7,000 customers.
The outage is affecting customers south of the Durham Freeway. Several traffic lights, including those on Fayetteville Road, were temporarily without power.
The WRAL Breaking News Tracker arrived at Bridgewood Drive around 4 a.m., where Duke Energy crews and firefighters were on scene. Durham crews said a tree fell on a main transmission line that runs behind the neighborhood and took down three substations.
According to Duke Energy crews, power was restored to 18,000 customers before 5 a.m. when two substations were repaired. More crews are on the way to make the final repairs.
WRAL News is working to learn when the power will be restored.
