LECANTO, Fla. — The Citrus County Planning and Development Commission board met Thursday to continue talks about a proposed data center.
Despite the county enacting a one-year moratorium on new data centers on May 1, discussions are continuing on a data center proposal in Lecanto, which was initiated before the pause was instituted.
There is a proposal for a data center to be built on 800 acres of land near County Road 491 and Tram Road.
Representatives for the Deltona Corporation, the development company, recently took questions from the county’s planning board, which asked specific questions about water usage, noise and even job creation.
Data centers are sprouting across the U.S., as tech giants scramble to meet worldwide demand for artificial intelligence products that require large amounts of computing power to train and operate.
Opponents to the project, mainly No Data Center Citrus, have been vocal at planning and zoning meetings.
