Happy Birthday to Queen Komal of Nepal, who turns 75 today! The sister and sister-in-law of the beloved Sovereigns who tragically came to the Throne, after a violent massacre, in the midst of Civil War which led to the abolition of the 250 year-old Nepalese Monarchy, today we are featuring her FRED Diamond Tiara!

When Komal Rajya Lakshmi Devi of the powerful Rana Dynasty married Prince Gyanendra of Nepal in 1970, she received this Diamond Tiara and Necklace created by the jeweller FRED. Princess Komal was the younger sister of Queen Aishwarya and the second of three sisters to marry three royal brothers.

In 1980, Princess Komal wore her Diamond Tiara and Necklace at a Banquet in Katmandu for the then Prince of Wales.

The Diamond Tiara and Necklace were also worn by Princess Komal for the State Banquet during the British State Visit to Nepal in 1986.

Princess Komal continued to wear the Diamond Tiara for Royal Ceremonies over the next several years, including the Coming-of-Age of Crown Prince Dipendra in 1990.

Following the Nepalese Royal Massacre and the Accession of King Gayendra, Queen Komal was pictured wearing a much larger Diamond Tiara of unknown provenance on several occasions.

Crown Princess Himani was pictured wearing Queen Komal’s Diamond Tiara and Necklace on a couple of occasions in the early 2000s.

In 2003, Queen Komal’s Diamond Tiara and Necklace were worn by her only daughter, Princess Prerana, for her Wedding to Raj Bahadur Singh. As private property, the Tiara likely remains with the Royal Family after the abolition of the Monarchy and lets hope we see it worn again soon!
