FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A road rage argument took a deadly turn on Wednesday when a person was struck by a passing driver on the highway. The person later died from his injuries at the hospital.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened early Wednesday morning, just before 2 a.m. at mile marker 163 in Fairfax County. Two sedans were involved in a crash in the southbound lanes of I-95. Following the crash, both drivers got out of their cars and started arguing on the side of the road.

During the argument, troopers say one of the drivers stepped into the road and was struck by a southbound Mercedes-Benz SUV. Matthew Demlein, a VSP spokesperson, said the driver of the Mercedes stopped a short distance ahead.

The person who died has not been identified by police. The crash remains under investigation, according to Demlein. Additional details have not yet been made public.
