HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police say they’re looking for a man who barged into a woman’s southeast Houston apartment and kidnapped her three-month-old daughter.

Officers say they were initially called to the Parker at Ellington apartments off Fuqua for a burglary in progress on Saturday morning.

The victim, who asked Eyewitness News to conceal her face out of fear for her safety, said she was doing some cleaning around 7 a.m. when someone began banging on the door and turning the knob.

“I immediately grabbed my one-year-old. I hid her in the closet, in the bedroom closet,” she said.

Before she could make it back to the living room to retrieve her three-month-old daughter, she said an armed man burst into her apartment.

“He was like, ‘Give me three (expletive) k right now,’ and then I was like, ‘I don’t have any money. I’m sorry. I don’t have anything,’” she said.

Investigators say the man was wearing distinctive Vans shoes with no laces and a black-and-white checkered pattern.

Aside from his all-black clothing and white gloves, the victim said she wasn’t able to get a very good look at him.

“He was wearing a black ski mask, so I couldn’t see any of his face. I couldn’t even see his skin color or nothing,” she said.

The victim said she called 911 as the suspect began tearing apart her living room.

“He was whispering to himself and banging his head, waving the gun around,” she said.

After more demands for money, she said he grabbed her daughter and walked off with her.

“He was like, ‘Give me like $3k tomorrow. I’m coming back or if I don’t get my $3k, I’m killing her’ and this, this, and that. And I was just like, okay, I don’t know what to do and he just took off,” she said.

The victim said she was too afraid to follow the suspect but called the police back to report the kidnapping.

“I stepped outside the door, and I was like, ‘What am I doing? He has a gun,’ you know. I don’t have anything to protect myself with,” she said.

Police say a neighbor found the baby outside another building at the same apartment complex not long after.

The child wasn’t harmed, but her mother is shaken.

“I get so scared that he might come back, he might hurt my daughter,” she said.

HPD is asking anyone with information to call its robbery division. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
