As a heavy snowstorm approaches, tow truck services brace for demand surges and potential delays, urging drivers to prioritize safety over travel.
WASHINGTON — It’s an all hands on deck response for this snowstorm.
From local government to local businesses.
As the WUSA9 Weather Team has reported, roads could get dicey, which could lead to crashes.
Tow Truck Business Owner Carlos Lucas says his team is getting trucks ready and staged.
“Outfitted with shovels and salt,” said Lucas, “Typically we stage vehicles in high traffic areas. Where we know we are going to get a lot of calls.”
Lucas says during the 2016 blizzard — there was a waiting list for help.
This year, they’re prepping for 10 to 15 calls per tow truck driver as the storm settles in.
He’s warning drivers who may experience a road emergency that response times could be significantly delayed or appointments cancelled if the roads get too icy.
“Unless it’s a serious emergency, try not to go out. I know it may sound strange from a tow truck driver because that means less money. But, I’d rather you be safe than at the mercy of time and a tow truck waiting to be picked up,” said Lucas.
If you do have to go out consider packing a warm blanket, portable charger, hand warmers, water and snacks in your car in the event you experience a road emergency and need to wait on a tow truck driver.
