Two suspects are in custody after a crash led to assaults on bystanders and a shooting that injured one person and hit a fire engine in Arden-Arcade.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two people were arrested following a crash, assault, and shooting in the Arden-Arcade area Thursday evening, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says.
According to authorities, Avieon Spencer, 25, Antwon Pace, 35, and a 14-year-old juvenile were driving dangerously through a parking lot before crashing their vehicle, which landed on its side.
Pace was injured in the crash, while Spencer and the juvenile suspect exited the vehicle.
Bystanders filming the crash became targets when the suspects assaulted one man and stole his phone.
They also assaulted a female bystander who was filming, but were unsuccessful in taking her phone.
Tensions escalated as witnesses attempted to detain Spencer, sparking a fight. During the altercation, the 14-year-old suspect pulled a firearm and fired shots, hitting one victim. An arriving fire engine was also hit by gunfire, though no firefighters were injured.
The juvenile suspect was quickly taken into custody by deputies, while Spencer left on foot.
Sheriff’s K9 units tracked and arrested him in a nearby neighborhood. Both suspects were booked, Spencer into the Sacramento County Main Jail and the 14-year-old into the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Pace remains hospitalized due to injuries from the crash, but he will be booked into jail once medically cleared to face outstanding warrants, authorities said.
This remains an active investigation.
