Driver killed after car left roadway, hit tree near I-5/I-80 interchange

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was killed after his vehicle left the roadway at the I-5/I-80 freeway interchange in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers say the crash occurred as the driver was transitioning from northbound Interstate 5 to eastbound Interstate 80. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, described as a man in his 30s, was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of family members. CHP is continuing to investigate what led to the crash.
