Howard will host Morehouse for their annual game against Morehouse at 4 p.m.
WASHINGTON — The Howard Bison (11-8, 2-2) will take on the Morehouse Maroon Tigers (10-7, 10-3) in their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on ESPN+ in Burr Gymnasium.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. attended Morehouse in 1944 at just the age of 15 and graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
Morehouse is lead by Larry Dixon who is in his first season for the Tigers and the Bison are led by Kenneth Blakeney who is in his seventh season.
Both HBCU’s have a storied history but this is only the fourth time these teams are meeting. Last year, Morehouse won their matchup, 79-72 at Howard.
Before that Howard prevailed in the last two match ups between the schools, leading the series 2-1.
Last time out
The Bison took on North Carolina Central University and won 83-69 at McDougal-McLendon Arena. Bryce Harris scored a team-high 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Morehouse, who are NCAA Division II, are currently riding a six-game win streak after between Clark Atlanta, 86-64. Senior guard JerMonte Hill led the team with 18 points and six rebounds.
Howard currently leads the MEAC in scoring defense at 69.6 points per game and 3.5 blocks per game and in steals at 9.4 per game.
Not the only basketball game in town…
MLK Day also marks an important day for the National Basketball Association. This year, the Washington Wizards are apart of Monday’s slate of games.
The Wizards will take on the Los Angeles Clippers at 3 p.m. at Capital One Arena. They are currently 10-31 and sitting at fifth in the Southeast division.
The Wizards latest star, Trae Young, has not played for them yet due to injury.
