Marni Yang, convicted in 2011 killing of former Bears player’s girlfriend, fighting for new trial

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) — Marni Yang is back in court, fighting for a new trial.

She was convicted in 2011 of killing the girlfriend of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle.

Rhoni Reuter was pregnant when she was shot and killed at her Deerfield condo in 2007.

Yang’s attorneys want a new trial to present new evidence and witnesses.

The hearing at the Lake County, Illinois Courthouse is expected to last a few days.

A judge granted Yang’s request to have her lawyers present new evidence in March of 2024.

She is serving a double life sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder.
