New I5 Bridge Boondoggle estimate: up to $17B – KXL

The sheer arrogance of people who draw public paychecks takes your breath away…but a shocker is on the way today.

It involves the single largest public works project in the Pacific Northwest, the proposed interstate bridge replacement.

Its price tag could shoot past 17 billion dollars according to cost estimates obtained by Washington State Representative John Ley (Lee)

To put that in perspective, in 2012, the shysters promoting this bridge boondoggle told lawmakers in both states the cost would be 3.5 billion, or less than a quarter of the new, high end estimate.

The new midrange and likely cost is north of 13 billion dollars, or more than 3 times the cost just 14 years ago.

To make it worse, the IBR project has spent the last several years first promising new cost estimates and then denying them to decision makers at the last second: think Lucy snatching that football back as Charlie Brown is about to kick.

Keeping citizens in the dark benefitted Greg Johnson, the man who pulled down 300-grand a year this failure and as its about to sink, who left that job one week ago.

Bottom line…ODOT and WashDOT don’t have the cash to make it happen and the project is effectively dead but still chewing up money fast from both states.

Citizens kept in the dark are the true victims.
