NC police, sheriff deputy car catch fire during chase, including one with K9; suspect not in custody

PINEBLUFF, N.C. (WTVD) — A pursuit involving at least two law enforcement agencies ended with three vehicles catching fire, which includes the suspect’s van.

The agencies involved in the chase are the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the Pinebluff Police Department.

The sheriff’s office reportedly initiated the chase after spotting a stolen vehicle in Pinebluff. The chase ended at US Highway 1 south, just inside the Richmond County line, near Glider Road.

According to the Pinebluff Police Department, the cars of a sheriff’s deputy, a police officer and the suspect’s car caught fire during the chase. The burned cars include a Moore County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, Pinebluff police K9 Unit car.

ABC11 has confirmed that the Pinebluff officer and his K9 were able to get out of the vehicle and are safe.

The suspect is still at large after running off into a wooded area.
