Though officials have not yet said who the federal employee is, Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell thanked officials for Scott Bolger’s arrest.
MCLEAN, Va. — A McLean man is facing federal charges after he allegedly sent a death threat to a federal employee.
The person, described only as a federal employee, received the threatening text message on Dec. 23.
“Step on U Street and get a bullet between your eyes, loyalist pig skin p****,” the text read, according to court documents.
It was sent from a Google Voice number, and court documents say the FBI was able to emergency request the recovery phone number attached to the account that sent the text. The recovery number belonged to McLean resident Scott Bolger.
The next day, FBI agents went to Bolger’s home address to interview him. But when they found his apartment, Bolger allegedly said his name is Brian Black and that not only did no one named Scott Bolger live at that address, he also didn’t know anyone named Scott Bolger.
It was only after an employee of the building confirmed that he was Scott Bolger and the FBI agents returned with Fairfax County Police that Bolger came out of the apartment and admitted he is who they were looking for, court documents say.
Bolger reportedly told the FBI agents he found the person’s phone number online and first called them to confirm it was their number. When they answered the phone, Bolger hung up, he told agents in an interview. Then, Bolger allegedly admitted that he did send the text message.
Officials have not yet said who the federal employee is, in what capacity they work for the government or how Bolger was able to find their phone number online. Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell did not confirm he is the employee, but acknowledged and thanked officials for Bolger’s arrest in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
He faces federal charges for threating to injure the federal employee and for subsequently lying to the law enforcement officers. The Department of Justice said if Bolger is convicted of these crimes, he faces up to five years in prison.
