Two drivers were arrested for “impaired driving” after the officer was hit.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Park Police officer, who was hit by a driver on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway over the weekend, was released from the hospital, the officer’s colleagues announced on Sunday.

Rescue units were first dispatched to the crash site, near I-295’s Route 410 ramp and Riverdale Road, at around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday. The USPP officer had been investigating a broken-down car when he was hit by another driver on the highway.

Both the driver who hit the officer and the driver whose broken-down car the officer had been investigating were arrested on charges related to “impaired driving,” the USPP announced on Saturday.

The officer was carried to the hospital by “Eagle One,” a USPP medevac helicopter. Crews from the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department also responded to the wreck, which happened within the borders of East Riverdale.

The officer who had been hit was the only reported injury from Saturday’s wreck.

The USPP officer’s patrol car was also damaged in the wreck and towed from the scene on Saturday.
