‘Girls’ day gone wrong’: Thieves steal rent money, gifts from Lodi mother as kids look on

“It’ll be okay. Laugh about it. I mean, what else am I supposed to do at this point? Not the best week of my life, but it’s okay.”

LODI, Calif. — A Lodi mother says this holiday season has been anything but merry after a robbery left her without rent money, Christmas gifts and essential medication — all while her two young daughters watched.

Angela Jones said the week had already been difficult before the robbery happened. The brand-new tablets she ordered as Christmas gifts for her children were mistakenly delivered to the wrong house and never recovered.

“They still can’t find the packages. They’re still MIA,” Jones said Sunday, days before they were supposed to be unwrapped. “I jokingly said, ‘Merry Christmas to whoever gets the tablets.’ Whatever, it’s going to be okay. You know, karma’s got my back one day, and then I get robbed. It’s like what!”

The robbery happened around 5 p.m. Friday in a parking lot near Kettleman Lane and Tienda Drive in Lodi.

Jones said she and her daughters had just parked and were still unbuckling their seat belts when at least two women in a car parked next to them moved quickly.

“In that two-second time frame, the people in the car next to us got into our car and just grabbed everything on the passenger seat,” Jones said. “Before I could get back in the car and turn around, they were already pulling out and driving away.”

Jones said the thieves took her car keys, rent money, Christmas money, presents, wallet, inhaler and medication.

“They took everything,” Jones said. “It was a girl’s day gone wrong, very wrong.”

No one was injured in the robbery. The case is now in the hands of Lodi police, who Jones said are still looking for those responsible.

She said she is scheduled to meet with officers on Monday and hopes anyone with information will come forward.

Despite the losses and the shock of what happened, Jones said she’s trying to keep optimistic.

“It’ll be okay. Laugh about it. I mean, what else am I supposed to do at this point?” Jones said. “Not the best week of my life, but it’s okay.”
