Sacramento County residents can now contest traffic tickets through a new online tool.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Contesting traffic tickets could get easier under a new online tool launched by the Sacramento Superior Court.
According to the court, Sacramento County residents will have access to the “Online Trial by Declaration” feature on the Judicial Council’s expanded MyCitations platform.
The online service is designed to contest citations without setting foot inside the courthouse. Tickets are typically process at the Carol Miller Justice Center in Sacramento.
The online tool went live on Thursday in Sacramento County. The feature is also available for residents in Amador, San Francisco and Siskiyou counties.
“We are excited to offer a streamlined, user-friendly option that gives our community greater flexibility and accessibility,” Brenda Allen, director of operations at the Carol Miller Justice Center, said in a statement. “
Through the new online tool, individuals with certain traffic tickets will be able to submit a written statement and upload documents. A judge then reviews both the individual and the issuing officer’s statements before making a decision.
Decisions on the ruling will be sent via email to the individual contesting the ticket.
Sacramento County residents can only use the tool if:
- They were issued a ticket for infraction violations only
- They want to contest the violation and complete it online
- The due date to address the ticket has not passed
- The ticket or courtesy notice does not require a mandatory court appearance
