FRANKLINTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A man and woman were injured after a shooting that took place Tuesday in Granville County.
Granville County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call on Tuesday afternoon, reporting a double shooting in Franklinton.
When deputies arrived, the suspect, Bradley McCurdy, left the scene in a white pickup and barricaded himself inside after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend.
Law enforcement agencies surrounded the area near NC 96 and Pine Ridge Road in the Wilton community during the standoff. Sheriff Robert Fountain Jr. stated that efforts to de-escalate the situation lasted four hours, but McCurdy ultimately shot and killed himself.
“We wish it could have turned out a little better. It did not. When we contacted him, he started making those conversations then that he was going to take his own life. He didn’t want to hurt law enforcement, but we still tried to communicate with him to resolve it a different way,” Sheriff Fountain said.
The woman, who was shot twice in the back of the head, is listed in fair condition. Authorities confirmed that McCurdy and the woman had previously been in an intimate relationship.
The other victim, a man, was shot once and remains in critical condition, the sheriff’s office says.
Michelle Robinson tells ABC11 that the man has been a longtime neighbor of hers.
“It’s unfortunate to see that we’ve had a shooting that was unrelated, but still brought attention to this community,” Robinson said. “I just hope that he pulls through or gets peace one way or another. And I hope everybody can heal from this.”
