(KRON) — Dreams of Christmas snow are unlikely to come true for most of the Western U.S. this year, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
“Are you dreaming of a White Christmas this year?” the Old Farmer’s Almanac wrote on social media. “While snow is in the forecast for most of Canada and the U.S.’s northeast regions, it’s not a certainty in many other locations.”

According to the 2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington are unlikely to see any Christmas snow. The eastern half of the West, meanwhile, including areas of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, all have a chance of Christmas snow.
States most likely to see a white Christmas include Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Alaska, according to the publication. Canada is also forecast for Christmas snow.
“Most of the U.S. will be seeing a milder, gentler winter than average, and across Atlantic Canada, most areas are not expected to see a White Christmas this year,” the Old Farmer’s Almanac wrote.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center anticipates a similar December forecast. NOAA’s long-term temperature and precipitation models show above-average precipitation and below-average temperatures for the northern U.S. and above-average temperatures to the south.
KRON4 will continue to monitor the latest weather conditions as the winter season approaches.
