2 National Guard members shot near White House, AP reports

According to reporting from the Associated Press, citing a source, two National Guard members were shot, and their conditions are unknown. No word on injuries.

WASHINGTON — A large police presence is gathering to investigate a shooting as a “critical incident” in Northwest D.C. on Wednesday afternoon. 

Very little information has been released at this time, but the DC Police posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that officers are investigating a shooting at 17th Street and I Street. 

According to reporting from the Associated Press, citing a source, two National Guard members were shot, and their conditions are unknown. There is no official word on injuries at this time.

Metro Transit Police took to X to ask riders to avoid the area near the Farragut West station as officers assist in the investigation. 

Police have not said anything about suspect information.

Several roads are closed in the area, including: 

  • 500 – 900 Blocks of 17th St from New York Ave to K St NW (NTN & S)
  • 800 Block of Connecticut Ave from H St to I St NW (NTN & S)
