NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — New York City, step right up. The magic of the Big Apple Circus is back in town with more sky-high acrobatics, breath taking stunts, and laughs for the whole family.
“I think we’ve built a really good show this year, and I think people will love it. You know, it’s fun,” said Joe Gold, producer, Big Apple Circus. “My job is to make sure that people have a good time.
He wants them to have a good time at what has become an institution in this town.
Acts under the big top have been entertaining New Yorkers for generations.
“I think what makes it so special is it’s our 48 years,” Gold said. “At the Big Apple Circus, the parents are enjoying themselves. The kids are enjoying themselves. And how often does that happen that you have great family entertainment.”
Fan-favorite acts of Bigo Troupe, The Bone Breakers, and The Kung Foo Boys, it’s a world of wonder, all in one ring, and all led by one man.
“My name is Brett and I am your ringmaster,” said Brett Alters, ringmaster.
Alters has entertained audiences around the world, leading this global cast of world-class acts comes naturally for him.
“My whole life, I’ve always I’ve always enjoyed having really cool friends. And this is like the ultimate job where I get to say, let me share my cool friends with you. That’s the joy of being a ringmaster for me,” Alters said.
Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg got his chance to get in on the act!
After his introduction, the only thing left to do was perform.
Maybe the best part in all of this is the nostalgia.
The popcorn buckets, the light up toys, and of course, the roar of the crowd, the circus is pure joy.
Eyewitness News anchors Shirleen Allicot and Pedro Rivera will get to be guest ringmasters Friday night.
The Big Apple Circus runs through January 4, 2026.
