The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says witnesses told deputies that they heard gunshots and people began running from the area.
STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — A man died and another man was seriously injured in a shooting at a Halloween house party, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
Before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to reports of gunfire on the 100 block of A Street in Empire. While deputies were on their way, dispatch confirmed there were multiple people that had been shot, officials said.
When deputies arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving measures. Both men were taken to the hospital, where one remains in critical condition, but the other was pronounced dead.
The man who died was identified as Juan Loaiza, a 32-year-old man from Ceres. A third victim took themselves to another hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Witnesses told deputies that they heard gunshots and people began running from the area, officials said.
The sheriff’s office said no suspects were located and remain at large.
The shooting remains under investigation.
