PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Rose City holds three of North America’s best chocolate shops, according to Yelp.
The “Elite Squad,” a group of active users on the business reviewing platform, recently ranked the top 50 places to purchase chocolate from across the U.S. and Canada. Among the several Portland businesses that were highlighted, all three placed within the top 10.
Although it doesn’t solely sell chocolate, JinJu Patisserie ranked at No. 1. The sweet treat spot on 4063 N Williams Ave. nabbed the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Bakery” earlier this year, and Yelp noted that it is “most notably known for delectable chocolate croissants, luxury chocolate truffles, and chocolate-covered almonds.”
Fellow Portland business Missionary Chocolates was recognized at No. 9. The shop has sold vegan, gluten-free and nut free chocolates since naturopathic physician Melissa Berry opened it in 2008.
“Her greater mission is to fund an integrative healing center in Portland with her chocolate sales,” Yelp wrote of the owner.
Missionary Chocolates currently has a pop-up shop that will be at the Portland International Airport through February 2026. The brick-and-mortar spot is currently located on NE 42nd Ave., after shuttering its original location on NE Glisan.
Another local shop with multiple locations, Creo Chocolate, ranked at No. 10 on the Yelp list. The small chain operates two stores in the Lloyd District and Pearl District, as well as a tasting room on 100 NE Farragut.
“See beyond the chocolate bar and learn how Creo Chocolate makes their chocolate in-house while customizing your own dark chocolate bar in a build-a-bar tasting experience,” Yelp wrote. “Shop meltaways, brewed cacao, chocolate-covered pretzels, and more for all of your chocolate cravings.”
Creo Chocolate also boasts several accolades, including three Good Food Awards for its midnight truffle sipping chocolate, caramelized milk and coffee and cream white chocolate in 2023.
