Man fatally shot by brother following an altercation in Oak Park

OAK PARK, Ill. (WGN) — A 26-year-old man was allegedly shot and killed by his brother Sunday afternoon inside their Oak Park home, according to police.

Officers were called to the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue just after 1:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Police said the caller reported that a 23-year-old man had shot his 26-year-old brother after an altercation. The two lived together.

According to police, the caller told the younger brother to remove the bullets from the gun, leave the weapon inside the home and step outside after the shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Oak Park Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The alleged shooter was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police station.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
