SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A South Sacramento family is picking up the pieces after a stolen car slammed into their home last week, leaving their father critically injured and their house destroyed.

“It’s been a very long week,” said Marissa Fulcher, whose father, 55-year-old Eric Adversalos, remains in the ICU.

Fulcher said the home she grew up in is now unrecognizable.

“It’s hard to see there be nothing left,” she said.

Police said the crash happened last Friday after officers chased a stolen car through the neighborhood. Family members said Adversalos was trapped under the vehicle after it hit their home.

Fulcher said her father’s injuries are extensive.

“His ribs are broken, he has a fractured spine, both lungs are collapsed, spine damage, heart damage,” she said. “There is so much damage to his sternum, they can’t put the plates in.”

Doctors have told the family his recovery will take months.

“It’s going to be a very long journey,” Fulcher said. “He is still in the ICU.”

Two of Adversalos’ children were also injured in the crash. The family said they Are thankful to still have each other, but now face being without a home for the second time.

Fulcher said the family’s house caught fire not long ago, destroying much of the living room, garage and kitchen.

“It was literally redone and it was brand new, and now we are facing this,” she said.

With the holidays approaching, Fulcher said the thought of losing their home again is devastating.

“There’s nowhere to celebrate Thanksgiving. There’s nowhere to spend Christmas morning,” she said.

Fulcher said her brother has been released from the hospital, but there’s no timeline for when her father will come home.

The family has launched a GoFundMe to help pay for medical bills and repairs.

Police said the driver of the alleged stolen car was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
