PA woman allegedly stabbed, hit stepbrother with sledgehammer in Ulster Co.

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Pennsylvania woman is facing multiple charges after an alleged assault in Ellenville on Tuesday. According to the village police department, 28-year-old Sara Levine is accused of stabbing and hitting her stepbrother with a sledgehammer.

According to police, officers were called to reports of “a serious assault” on Westwood Avenue at around 4:42 a.m. When officers arrived, they reported finding one person covered in blood.

During the investigation, officers discovered the suspect, later identified as Levine, had driven to her parents’ house, slashed the victim’s tires, and used a knife to put deep cuts into the truck before unlawfully entering the home.

Officers said she entered the home with the knife and a sledgehammer, looking for her 61-year-old stepbrother. In an attempt to see what was happening, the stepbrother walked out of his room and was confronted by Levine, who then allegedly stabbed him in the upper shoulder and neck area and then allegedly hit him with the sledgehammer.

Police said they were contacted by the parents, who woke up during the incident. The victim was taken to the Ellenville Regional Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Levine was charged with the following:

  • First degree burglary
  • Second degree assault
  • Third degree criminal mischief
  • Fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon

Police have not shared a motive in this case. According to the police department, Levine was arraigned in Ulster County CAP Court Tuesday afternoon.

The Ellenville Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department Uniform and Detective Division. The scene was processed by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Tech Investigators.
