(FOX40.COM) — On Saturday, a vision of pink took over Mack Road. Community members celebrated the opening of “Baddies R Us Beauty Bar.” It’s a women-owned, black-owned business that’s all about giving people confidence and showing them that everyone is beautiful.
FOX40 attended the event and spoke with founder Promise B. Mae.
“I want to change the narrative to show people that luxury and ‘the hood’ can coexist,” the owner said.
Walking into the bright pink beauty bar, one could only imagine that it’s every little girl’s dream.
“Little girls walk by, especially little girls that look like me, and they look at me and they say, I want to do that,” Promise said.
The space sports pink walls, a pink carpet, a pink marble floor, pink towels, pink — everything! Promise B. Mae is a visionary, an entrepreneur and a leader.
“Black owned businesses,” This is women’s empowerment.” One attendee, Niyya Bby, said.
For the special celebration, welcoming Sacramento’s newest beauty bar to the area, organizers set up balloons, velvet, music and — of course — a whole lot of pink. Promise was born and raised in the Valley High area. She’s celebrating her roots and showing the next generation of women how to feel confident and become the best version of themselves.
“This is your safe place, and here, this is where you’re going to have confidence,” Promise said. “You’re going to feel good about yourself, because you know when you look good, you feel good.”
Whether a client is there for their hair, lashes or nails, Promise said she wants “Baddies R Us” to be a place where all women can trust that they are in good hands.
“No matter the texture of your hair, we are going to slay it,” Promise said. “You are going to walk out a baddie.”
Complete with a hair extension vending machine and luxury supplies, this new Sacramento gem isn’t just drawing in a local audience. Famous artist Cardi B gave the beauty bar her stamp of approval online.
Of course, the business isn’t just about the pink; it’s also about the people. From the moment she heard about this venture, Lash Tech Danica Loa told FOX40 she knew she had to be involved.
“It’s just a girl vibe, a girl vibe of being in a salon getting your hair done,” Loa said. “You got some gossip? We could talk, have fun, you know, listen to music and just hang out.”
Every person has their own story. Baddies R Us is about helping you discover yours — and learning to shine along the way.
“How’s your day going so far?” FOX40 asked one young client, Melodie Lovett, at Saturday’s event. “Very good, because I’m here… I’m inspired,” Lovett replied.
The beauty bar is open every day, Monday through Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
