Teen faces gun charge after shooting near Centennial High School

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A teenager is facing a gun charge after a shooting left one person injured near Portland’s Centennial High School Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:39 p.m. October 22, Portland police responded to a shooting by Southeast 174th Avenue and Southeast Haig Street.

On the scene, officers found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his torso who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators later identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male from Portland. The teen was arrested Thursday, and authorities seized a handgun as evidence.

The teen was booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention facility for unlawful use of a firearm charges, PPB said, noting no other suspects are being sought.

Police said the shooting remains under investigation and PPB is working with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office to consider additional charges.

It is not clear what led up to the shooting.
