Modesto teacher arrested, accused of inappropriately touching students

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — A Modesto middle school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of inappropriately touching two students, authorities said Thursday.

Javier Villanueva, 52, an eighth-grade English teacher at Glick Middle School in the Empire Union School District, faces two counts of lewd acts with a child under 14, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies said they responded to the school after two students reported to staff that a teacher had inappropriately touched them.

The first incident is believed to have occurred during the 2024-2025 school year; the most recent incident took place Monday, deputies said. 

Villanueva was identified as the accused through an investigation and was arrested near his home, law enforcement said.

Deputies said they’re working to determine if there are other victims and locate additional evidence.
