Granite Bay home burglary prompts investigation by Placer County deputies

The homeowner reported Friday a room in their house along Hopkins Court had been ransacked, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.

GRANITE BAY, Calif. — Deputies are investigating after a home was burglarized Friday night in Granite Bay.

Law enforcement arrived at the home around 8 p.m. on Hopkins Court after the homeowner reported a room had been ransacked, according to Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Elise Soviar.

The homeowner, who asked to be identified only as Crystal for privacy reasons, told ABC10 she initially thought the strange noises she heard that night were something harmless, maybe a burst pipe. She went outside to check and didn’t find anything, but when she went back inside, she found her bedroom closet had been torn apart.

“They took several handbags. They took jewelry, a lot of high-end stuff,” she said. “I would say they ran off with about $50,000 worth of stuff that I had.”

Crystal says deputies told her the burglary appears similar to other recent cases in the Granite Bay area. She says the suspects used a glass cutter designed to avoid triggering the alarm. She also said they detached the motion-sensor lights in her backyard before breaking in.

Neither a suspect description nor information about stolen property were available for release as of late Monday morning, Soviar said.

The sheriff’s office said Sunday no arrests had been made.
