(KRON) — A nonverbal autistic man who had been missing since Wednesday morning was located Thursday, the Alameda Police Department announced.
The man was last seen around 7 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Ninth Street and Santa Clara Avenue. Alameda police later said in a Wednesday afternoon update that they received a report of him swimming in a pool at the south end of Broadway around 9 a.m.
“He likes to frequent parks and areas with water, including pools and Alameda shorelines. Anyone with a pool is encouraged to check the surrounding areas,” Alameda PD wrote in its missing person advisory.
One day later, police said he had been located at 9:43 a.m. on Thursday.
“Thank you to the entire community for coming together to support our search efforts,” police wrote.
Multiple agencies, including the BART Police Department, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and AC Transit, had joined the effort in locating the man safely.
