A hot pot restaurant where AI robots served bowls of savory broth has closed in Pineville after just two years in business.
Yiding Hot Pot, Sushi + More was listed as “permanently closed” as of Tuesday, Oct. 14, according to Google. Its website was also expired, and its voicemail box was full.
The Asian eatery opened in The Centrum shopping center back in 2023, inviting customers to fill bowls of piping hot broth with fresh ingredients such as noodles, vegetables and seafood, among other toppings, CharlotteFive reported.
What made the dining experience extra special was a pair of bots — WALL-E and Eve — that moved plates between the kitchen and guests’ tables. Each was outfitted with four shelves to carry food, drinks and more.
Owner Wenda Wang told CharlotteFive at the time that the robots were “very helpful to the restaurant to reduce the labor.” The restaurant’s human servers were also available to assist.
A reason for the closure wasn’t immediately clear, and fans of the restaurant didn’t hesitate to sound off online:
- “What happened? This was genuinely the place to come eat! What do you mean the lamb and fresh sushi will only live in my memories?” Jo Lynn wrote on Instagram.
- “WHY DID YALL CLOSESEE,” @oficiallilo commented.
- “You guys are permanently closed?” @the_only_yosi_you_know asked
Yiding Hot Pot didn’t immediately return CharlotteFive’s request for comment.
