NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Crews worked to put out an apartment fire on Lyman Road in Northampton Friday night.
The Northampton Fire Department stated that crews were called to the area of Lyman Road following an automatic alarm at the residence. All units were then sent to the home after the department received a call reporting alarms and smoke showing in the apartment.
When firefighters initially arrived in the area, no fire or smoke was visible other than an odor, but heavy smoke and fire soon began to appear in the back of the building. Crews quickly put out the fire, limiting damage to a single apartment.
Northampton Fire said that no injuries were reported and that working smoke detectors contributed to the safety of the individuals living in the multi-family dwelling.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Northampton Fire Investigation Unit, the Northampton Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshals Office.
