PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Pittsfield man was found guilty of second-degree murder for a shooting back in 2022.
The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office states that back on February 1, 2022, at 11:39 p.m., officers were sent to 181 King Street in Pittsfield for a report of shots fired. It was reported that a man walked into the home and shot the victim, 40-year-old Jeric Black, in the stomach. When officers arrived, the suspect, 45-year-old Michael Rose of Pittsfield, had already left the home. Black was taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where he later died.
An investigation revealed that Rose went to confront Black at his home on King Street. Rose was dropped off and let into Black’s home by one of his family members. The family member reported hearing a gunshot shortly after Rose arrived and saw him run out of the house.
Digital evidence was recovered, including phone logs and a device that connected to the internet. Rose’s own technology device was connected to a router near where he was dropped off on View Street. This allowed prosecutors to geolocate him moments after he committed the crime.
On Wednesday, Rose was found guilty of murder in the second degree, as well as possession of a firearm without an FID card. He was sentenced to 20 years to life for the murder charge and two and a half years to serve for the firearm charge, which are to be served concurrently.
“Justice was delivered today for Jeric Black, who was ruthlessly gunned down, leaving behind his loving family and friends. This verdict was made possible by the work of the Pittsfield Police, the courage of a key witness coming forward, and the strength of Mr. Black’s family. I am proud of the prosecutors, advocates, and every member of my office. Over the past 18 months, we have brought seven murder cases to conviction, holding seven violent criminal offenders accountable,” said District Attorney Shugrue.
