HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – State officials have released the latest MCAS test results, revealing that schools in Massachusetts continue to face learning challenges in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s results show that only 55% of schools made substantial progress toward or exceeded their goals, a decrease from 60% last year.
In English, 42% of students in grades 3 through 8 met or exceeded expectations, marking a slight increase but still falling short of pre-pandemic levels. Math scores remained unchanged.
Governor Maura Healey responded to the results, stating, “This is the reason I put forward those investments in literacy and high-dose tutoring. I know that there was going to be a drop because of what we went through in COVID.”
State officials highlighted that achievement gaps remain significant for students of color, English learners, and students with disabilities. These disparities underscore ongoing challenges in ensuring equitable education for all students.
